Laughing all the way

December 30th, 2007

I’ve decided the holidays are a good time to practice laughing. I’ve been smiling for a couple of weeks, and Daddy has been trying to get me to laugh with little progress on his part. Finally, he found a noise that would make me laugh. Now just about everyone but Uncle Greg can make me laugh – especially Texas Grandpa.  My laugh is not very loud, or very long – but it’s definitely more animated than just a smile. It sure seems to make people happy. Daddy took videos of me laughing, silly man.

Pretend Christmas!

December 27th, 2007

My Texas Grandma and Grandpa flew in on the 26th of December. Boy are their arms tired. They brought Uncle Greg and Aunt Natalie, too. We all pretended it was still Christmas so we could open presents in the evening.

Mommy even washed my Christmas outfit so I could wear it again. Now my bib that says "My first Christmas" isn’t technically true. It’s my second Christmas in as many days!

My Texas relatives wanted their first meal to be In ‘N Out burgers. They can’t get them in Texas and everyone thinks they are yummy burgers.  I wouldn’t know yet. Then they had pizza for dinner. These Texas folks have dainty gourmet palates, can’t y’all tell? I reckon we’ll have steak and potatoes tomorrie, yee haw!

Those Texas folks really like football, so we watched the Motor City Bowl. We also just sat around catching up on old times. I haven’t seen them since November, so everyone took a turn holding me. But mostly Grandpa hogged me all to himself since he was sick last time and flew home early for my sake.

Finally, we were supposed to get down to business and open Christmas presents together in the evening – but Grandpa only wanted to play with me instead! Everyone else exchanged gifts while he paid no attention to the whole affair. He said I was the best and only present he needed. But that’s tough luck, ’cause we got him gifts anyway. Finally Grandma stole me from him, and they made him open his presents.

I got a fuzzy book that really fascinated me. I even reached out and grabbed it.  Everyone was shocked since I don’t pay much attention to foreign objects or my toys yet.

Since everyone was on Texas time, we turned in early. I still made Mommy and Daddy stay up though. I don’t go down easy after a full day of activities.

Uncle Greg was supposed to change his first poopie diaper EVER. But Aunt Natalie took over when things looked hopeless. We still have several days to train him

Christmas Day Transpires

December 25th, 2007

Ah-ma was working today, so Christmas wasn’t as eventful as Christmas eve. I got all dressed up for the occasion with my second of two Christmas outfits Ah-ma bought me. I let everyone sleep a little later than usual – my present to Mommy and Daddy. I even had a morning nap on Daddy.  I spent much of the afternoon happily cooing and flailing my arms. I didn’t nap much after morning, so I got fussy by evening.

Bravely, the clan took me out to eat Peking Duck in San Diego. They knew I was cranky, and I let them have it a few times. The restaurant was loud and no one noticed. I got to have my own meal – bottle of breast milk, afternoon vintage. I slept in the car on the way home as I am wont to do.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

December 25th, 2007

Merry Christmas, Everyone! I’m here at Ah-ma’s house. But Ah-ma isn’t here–she is working! She’s a nurse, and nurses are always needed. Uncle Jon and Auntie Karen are in Shanghai.

We had Singaporean steamboat (shabu shabu) for Christmas Eve Dinner last night. I slept through some of it. But I was awake for the gift giving. We opened all the presents since Ah-ma would be working on Christmas Day. It was fun!  Mommy and Daddy received their very own shabu shabu set from Ah-ma. I even got a Christmas dress.

Daddy took more video than photos. I’ll make them post that soon.

For my gift to Mommy and Daddy this morning, I laid awake for an extra hour and just grunting and flinging my arms around with no screaming or demands! They got to sleep into 8am! Sometimes I get them up at 6am, so this really was a good gift on my part.  Pa rum pum pum pum.

Texas Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Greg and Natalie are coming the 26th! Yeah! More presents and people to carry me around!

I only sleep on Daddy, Part Deux

December 24th, 2007

You might not believe the events that transpired last night that I am about to recount. Believe me, they are true as I am the very one who did them. You may recall my previous post in which I disclosed that I only nap on Daddy.

The past couple of days I’ve felt particularly ornery. Daddy has been forced to carry me around the house to look at all the strange objects.  Some of the time I let him get away with carrying me in the Nojo baby sling. But other times I demand upright carrying so I can give my full attention to tours of the house. By “forced to carry” I mean either they comply or I scream and cry like a dog is chewing my leg off. This is an escalation of my previous requirements of only napping on him.

Mommy is worried things are out of control. And insists that they let me cry it out occasionally when I’ve been put down to play or in my bouncer, swing, or other soothing device. Otherwise they can’t get anything done. Like packing to go to Ah-ma’s house.

Well, back to this evening. Daddy was so worn out from the past couple of days, when we visited Ah-ma’s for Christmas, Daddy went to bed really early (like 6pm!).  Continue reading »

Widget & Tegdiw take a bath

December 21st, 2007

Baths are a staple of a young babe’s life. It adds excitement for parents and pup alike. Here my mirror friend, Tegdiw, and I enjoy  typical fuss-free bathing session. Given our general fussy natures, Mommy and Daddy are surprised that Tegdiw and I take to water so well.  Capturing the spirit of the bath while avoiding our private parts is challeging for novice videographer, Daddy. If you watch closely, you’ll see much of the close-ups in video are actually of Tegdiw.

Widget wakes up from a long nap

December 20th, 2007

Mommy likes to watch me stretch when I wake up from a long, long nap. This is an older video, back when I used to take long naps by myself in the daytime and woke up often at night.  Now Mommy and Daddy have me on a regular day/night schedule. These days, I do indeed sleep through the night for 5-8 hours (10 hours if they’re lucky!). But I’m a real stinker about taking naps in the daytime now (see my previous post about sleeping on Daddy). I’d like to point out Mommy and Daddy are really rude for laughing at my bodily functions in the beginning of the video — especially at my age!

Mommy and Me

December 17th, 2007

This is my little tribute to my mom. I’ve been a fussy little stinker and I don’t intend on changing. But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate her. Even before I was born, I started causing trouble. I gave everyone a scare with preterm labor on Labor Day. I was breach at 34 weeks. I was OP at 37. I made Mommy’s tummy almost burst, waiting past 40 weeks to come out. And even then I didn’t make it easy. Her water broke at 7am and I wasn’t born until 17 hours later. After over 3 hours of hard core pushing, I was finally born a few minutes after midnight. Me and my big head. I even made Mommy and Daddy move to make room for me and all their stuff — it was mostly Daddy’s stuff, so I accept none of the blame for that. So here’s to you Mommy!!!

Ah-ma’s big party

December 16th, 2007

On Saturday, I made my biggest trip out of the house yet. I traveled to my Ah-ma’s house 80 miles away. I slept the whole time because my parents were boring. My daddy was reading about fussy babies. I had no idea what he was talking about.

Ah-ma threw a party in my honor for turning one month old. She invited a lot of new friends for me to meet.
